I have a workbook that I frequently update - about 3 times a week. The primary page in it is a worksheet with a pivot table. I update the contents of the other worksheets in the workbook and then update the data-range of the pivot table.
I have created a number of pivot tables in Windows for a client who uses a Mac with Excel 2011. The pivot tables are visually similar, but the client isn't able to show more detail by double clicking on one of the items in the 'values column', almost defeating the object of the pivot table itself. Mar 9, 2016 - How to create a Pivot Table on Excel for Mac. Step 1: The original data. Step 2: Select the cell where you want the pivot table to appear. Step 3: Select the Data tab from the toolbar in Microsoft Excel. Step 4: Click the small arrow next to the PivotTable icon and select the Create Manual PivotTable option.
This all works just fine and sufficiently in v.X, however, in 2004, when I get into the Wizard and hit the 'Back' button to change the range, Excel crashes. It is highly repeatable and seems to do it on any workbook with a pivot table.
Can anyone else verify this? Or, does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening? I have to re-create the pivot table.every. time I want to update the data. Which really puts a damper on progress.
Also, just as a short term fix, could I have a VB script or (forgive me for saying this) a Macro which can update the range of the Pivot table? Excel 2004 and pivot tables. Posted:, 05:09 PM In article, Chris Waskowich wrote: I have a workbook that I frequently update - about 3 times a week.

Does it happen with a fresh workbook? If you're just changing the range, you may be interested in using dynamic ranges instead: As for a macro (which is just a script written in VBA, so I'm not sure what you have against them), start by recording a macro while you generate your PT. I'll just have to re-create the entire workbook. At least it is not as catastrophic as I had originally thought. If you're just changing the range, you may be interested in using dynamic ranges instead: Thanks for the link.
It looks like this could help out. As for a macro (which is just a script written in VBA, so I'm not sure what you have against them), start by recording a macro while you generate your PT. For more help, Jon Peltier has a page of links: I was referring to the old Excel 4.0 macros. Do people still use these, or am I the only one?;) Thanks for this link too. Does it happen with a fresh workbook? If you're just changing the range, you may be interested in using dynamic ranges instead: Well, I created the workbook from scratch and it still bails. I didn't copy any worksheets over to the new workbook. The only thing I copied was the data, but I got that from the original source - not the workbook. So, it must be something about the data that I have that is causing Excel to get all mad. I did try out the dynamic data range techique and it worked just fine, but when I copied the one of the pivot table worksheets to another worksheet and tried to change the data source, that is when it bailed. I guess I'm going to have to create each pivot table from scratch.

Since I can't reproduce it, it's hard for me to suggest something.
My data source is a simple data table in a worksheet, like this: id name age - 1 John 5 2 Peter 10 3 Josh 20 but when I create the PT it only show headers id name age doesn't show data in the PT I check all pivot table options, like: data source (range), I try using the layout option and also I compare the pivot table options in pc with mac and everything look good. When I create a PT on pc after add a field all data of the data source appear in the PT but isn't the same on mac, after add a field only appear the header. Maybe this can give a clue of my problem. Click to expand.I'm still not sure what you're doing to create the pivot table. You don't say what fields you're using for rows, columns or data, so it's hard to know what to suggest. I created a Pivot table using your data using the following steps: 1) I reproduced your data above in A1:C4. 2) I chose Data/Pivot Table Report.
3) In step 1 of the PT dialog, I chose Microsoft Excel list or database as the data source, and clicked Next. 4) In step 2 of the PT dialog, I confirmed the data range is $A$1:$C$4 and clicked Next. 5) In step 3 of the PT dialog, I selected the 'Existing Worksheet' radio button, entered $F$1 in the input box, and clicked Finish. 6) From the PT toolbar I dragged the id field to the PT section labeled 'Drop Row Fields Here'. 7) From the PT toolbar I dragged the name field to the PT section labeled 'Drop Column Fields Here'.
8) From the PT toolbar I dragged the age field to the PT section labeled 'Drop Data Items Here'. The resulting PT is F G H I J Sum of age name id John Josh Peter Grand Total 1 5 5 2 10 10 3 20 20 Grand Total 5 20 10 35 What happens when you try these steps?
